Grandma passed away this morning at 11:04 am.
She was 79.
I am standing here with her right now. The nurses did a nice job dressing her in blankets around her head to make her look like Mother Theresa or an angel. Her skin is still warm, and she looks so peaceful. Under the white sheets, her body is wrapped in a white, zipped bag.
Outside the curtains, machines are beeping, and I hear the voices of nurses- my mom making phone calls, chairs dragging…and somewhere, air is escaping from plastic tubing.
I love(d) my grandma; and standing beside her, I know that she is on her way to a better place. I’ll miss her for now, but I know I will see her again.

Outside, the snow flurries whip around in a frenzy,
while inside, my darling grandmother rests peacefully.
The smell of fresh, unused plastic encasing hugs the last earthly remains of my grandmother,
while her spirit travels on to a better and brighter life.
I consider her lucky to be so privileged.
